Google Measurement Lab

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Measurement Lab is a new service from Google, which allows users to run diagnostic test on their broadband connection.  This is a very helpful service because it is often very difficult to determine the source of seemingly slow broadband speeds.

Measurement lab will allow users to check the actual speed of their connection as well as running checks that will help identify the cause of problems.  For example, it will be able to identify if you Internet Service Provider (ISP) is blocking certain programs.

In addition to diagnostic tools, M-lab is aiming to function as an online community for broadband and ISP issues.  Data that is collected by its servers will be made public, providing much needed information for researchers.

A more detailed explanation of Google’s Measurement lab can be found on the official Google blog.
