Chrome 2.0 In Beta

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Google have released a new version of its browser, Chrome, which is currently still being tested and is available in beta only.  With less than three months separating general release of Chrome and the beta release of Chrome 2.0, it seems that Google are moving at a fast pace compared with other browsers.

One of the main improvements of Chrome 2.0 is its speed.  It is quoted as being at least 25% faster than 1.0, which was no slouch itself.  In fact, the speed of Chore is quite impressive and may be a “selling point” of the browser.  With several quality browsers available, each needs to stand out in some way.  FireFox stands out for being highly customisable, whereas Internet Explorer stands out for its inability to render code properly and its total lack of originality (You may have guessed I’m not its biggest fan).

Chrome 2.0 also has several new tools for users to try.  It could be argued that it is hot on the heels of FireFox in terms of customisability, although it will take some time for it to match the sheer number of addons that are available for FireFox.
