Print Ads Ends

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Over the past few years, Google has expanded its paid advertising program to include several options outside of the Internet.  One such option was “prints ads”, which allowed people to advertise products and services in local newspapers and magazines through an option in AdWords.  Unfortunately, Google has announced that this feature will be stopped at the end of February due to a lack of interest.

It seemed to me that print ads had a lot of good points.  Firstly, it allowed advertisers to increase exposure without dealing with additional marketing companies.  In addition, Google assigned unique contact numbers to the ads, which gave advertisers the ability to track the performance of ads.

Advertisers within the UK will be unaffected by the closure of Print Ads, as it was only available to customers within the United States.  In fact, many people reading this blog will be unaware that the service existed at all.  Even the majority of American advertisers will be unaware of the service and this has no doubt played a large part in its downfall.  Additionally, many people that did use the service reported problems with incorrectly formatted ads and poor return on investment.
